Information about the Enneagram:
The origin of the Enneagram is relatively unknown. Its teaching is thought to be over 2000 years old and may have originated in Persia. It was passed on orally down through the centuries until the early 1900’s when scholars began to record it in written form in Europe and the U.S.A. Since then many writers have continued to contribute to its psychological and spiritual wisdom to the present day.
The Enneagram suggests that when we were young we kept ourselves safe and managed life and all its stressors by developing strategies to help us cope. Some of these however no longer work, are not necessary and get in the way of relationships. By working with the Enneagram we can challenge and leave behind old ways of coping and begin to look at life from a wider perspective.
The Enneagram helps us recognise and appreciate who we are. It gives us a deeper awareness of ourselves; past, present and who we are becoming. The Enneagram enables us to live in harmony and more creatively with ourselves, learning to love each part of our personality (that which we try to hide and that which is more public). It also helps us see how our personality is closely aligned to our expression of spirituality.
As equally important, living with the Enneagram helps us understand other people; relationships are enhanced, enriched and enlivened. |
